Qirion commissioned us to design a 150/10 kV substation for the port area of Amsterdam; a new energy distribution station on a brownfield site, contributing to the national electrification programme and the expansion of the electricity distribution network.
Vicoma’s Role
Qirion is actively standardising its facilities. Vicoma participates in Qirion’s “Modular Construction” team, contributing to the development and ongoing maintenance of a robust overarching standard.
For this location, commissioned by Liander, Qirion opted to apply a design based on the “Modular Construction” methodology. At the project’s outset, a basic design was provided by Qirion. Vicoma reviewed this against the project requirements and developed it further in several stages.
Taking on board feedback from the aesthetics committee, we pragmatically enhanced the design, balancing Qirion’s interests with functionality and cost considerations. With minimal yet purposeful adjustments, we introduced architectural elements that gave the substation its own character while maintaining cohesion within Qirion’s distinctive portfolio.
Our construction documentation, including detailed grounding and system floor plans, formed a solid foundation for the successful realisation of the project.
Result
We received praise from the aesthetics committee for our architectural design and from Qirion for the quality and dedication with which we, alongside Qirion’s various disciplines, delivered a well-integrated whole; with smooth execution as the icing on the cake.
