Maryam Doaie on Her First Months at Vicoma

Maryam Doaie has been working at Vicoma as a senior electrical & instrumentation engineer since July 2022. We spoke with her about her work, her experiences, and the work atmosphere and culture at Vicoma, among other things.

“I first heard about Vicoma because one of my former colleagues was already working for the company. He knew I was ready for a new challenge and let me know about an open position on LinkedIn,” says Maryam. “In my previous job, the projects I worked on were broadly similar. At Vicoma, every project is unique, which gives me more opportunities to grow and learn by applying new technology and new design approaches. I work on various projects for different clients, each with its own unique characteristics. Every day, I have to innovate and create, drawing on the experience, knowledge, and skills I’ve developed and gained over the past 20 years. That’s what makes this job so fascinating.”
There’s also a lot of teamwork involved. “When we work on a project, we do so with a multidisciplinary team. We have to troubleshoot together to solve problems and innovate.”

“What appeals to me about Vicoma is the combination of technical challenges and personal involvement. No two projects are the same, and it’s precisely that variety that keeps you growing and makes it a pleasure to work on innovative solutions every day.”

What do you remember about your first day on the job and your first few months at Vicoma?

“On my first official day at work, I was pleasantly surprised by how open and friendly everyone was. I even received a bouquet of flowers; the director welcomed me personally, and I was introduced to a few colleagues I would be working with. After day one, I wasn’t immediately thrown in at the deep end, but was given the space to get to know the company, its work methods, procedures, and culture, which allowed me to build my own network. Vicoma provides a safe workplace for its employees. This is very motivating. When you feel comfortable and confident, it contributes to productivity.”

After 9 months, is your opinion of Vicoma still the same?

“Even after nine months, Vicoma is a company where I feel at home. Still, I also see opportunities for Vicoma to grow even further. It’s a large company with four offices. It would be great to further improve communication among us by sharing more resources and training opportunities. As one team, we can support each other even more, create synergy, and raise the bar for quality across the board. It’s important to challenge yourself as an individual every day and strive to improve. But this also applies to the company as an overarching organization. Then 1+1 is no longer 2 but a multiple of that, and together we can move mountains.”
