About the Project
Vicoma has gone into space. Okay, not literally, of course, so a clarification is in order. The Ariane 6 rocket has now been successfully launched from the launch pad in Kourou, French Guiana.
For no less than ten years, thirteen countries have worked tirelessly to make this possible. Among them are a number of Dutch companies, such as Airbus in Oegstgeest.
So what’s the connection to Vicoma? Our top talent designed and engineered the Airbus building. Something we were already proud of, and now we’re even prouder!
Vicoma’s Role
No building, no rocket. That’s why Airbus asked Vicoma to design a new facility next to its existing building in Leiden.
However, we demonstrated that the overall program wasn’t a good fit here. So we created a new design for a site in Oegstgeest—near both the highway and the water.
We developed a comprehensive design in consultation with the relevant authorities. We took responsibility not only for the building but also for the quay.
We handled the project management, all engineering work, permit applications, and the selection of contractors. During construction, we assisted Airbus with technical supervision and ensured that aesthetic standards were maintained.
Result
A striking and functional building on the banks of the Oude Rijn in Oegstgeest, where Airbus can load its finished products directly onto a ship for transport.
What do you mean, “It’s not rocket science?”
