About the Project
The municipality of Wageningen wanted to make its real estate more sustainable. They brought us on board to oversee this process.
We conducted a baseline assessment of eight properties. This gave us insight into the measures we need to take to reduce energy consumption and generate the remaining energy required in a sustainable manner: the Zero Energy Menu approach.
Vicoma’s Role
Through close coordination with the client and the active involvement of the mechanical and electrical engineering consultant, a design has been developed that is perfectly tailored to reducing CO2 emissions. With a focus on energy conservation and sustainable energy generation. The advantage of this is that the implementation is unambiguous and the results are verifiable. They can be measured relatively easily.
We deliberately chose not to improve energy ratings. In practice, however, it turns out that this is by no means a guarantee of an actual reduction in energy consumption. We were delighted to coordinate the engineering, construction management, and supervision.
Result
Once all measures have been implemented, along with the installation of solar panels, a CO2 reduction of 496 metric tons per year will be achieved. Through energy conservation and on-site energy generation, the eight buildings will become, on average, up to 80 percent energy-neutral. The remaining energy required is sourced from renewable sources.
The eight buildings had total annual CO2 emissions of 622 metric tons. It’s great to see that our efforts have contributed to a significant reduction and a more sustainable part of the Netherlands.
