About the Project
Renovating their distinctive office in Leeuwarden. That’s what FrieslandCampina wanted. And they wanted to have some options to choose from. FrieslandCampina asked us to provide pre-engineering services for the renovation of “Building 1” in Leeuwarden.
The purpose of a pre-engineering study is to investigate the feasibility of the planning and to determine and request the corresponding budgets. The starting point for the assignment was to assess the condition of the building and its systems and to develop three facade designs and office concepts at the preliminary design stage.
Vicoma’s Role
Based on key figures, Vicoma initially assessed the feasibility of various scenarios, ranging from complete demolition and replacement with new construction to a full renovation. Based on the results, it was concluded that the original plan—demolishing the low-rise buildings and renovating the high-rise buildings—was the most realistic option.
Result
It was clear from the outset that the building was so outdated that the facade needed to be completely renovated. In addition, the interior and the building systems no longer met today’s requirements and expectations. Vicoma created three completely different facade designs that were received with great enthusiasm; “Wow, it’s impressive to see that you can turn the current building into something so beautiful.” All results were documented in a comprehensive final report with appendices, which was received with praise by the Friesland Campina project team.
