About the Project
Qirion asked us to design a 150/10 kV substation for the port area in Amsterdam. A new power distribution substation on a brownfield site, as part of the national electrification effort and the expansion of the electricity distribution grid.
Vicoma’s Role
Qirion is working to standardize its facilities. Vicoma is represented on Qirion’s “Modular Construction” team and is thus contributing to the development of a sound, overarching standard. Keeping this standard up to date is an ongoing process.
Qirion, commissioned by Liander, chose to implement a design at this location based on the “Modular Construction” approach. At the start of the project, they submitted a preliminary design. Vicoma assessed this design against the requirements and further developed it in several phases.
Following the advice of the aesthetics committee, we took a pragmatic approach to enhance the design’s appeal, while keeping Qirion’s interests in mind. Using minimal resources and refinements, and keeping costs and functionality in mind, we have adapted architectural elements to give the station its own distinct character within Qirion’s recognizable portfolio.
Our construction drawings, including detailed grounding and system floor plans, provided a solid foundation for the project’s completion.
Result
The Building Aesthetics Committee has commended our architectural design. Qirion has commended the quality and dedication with which we, together with Qirion’s various disciplines, were able to create a single, integrated whole—with a smooth execution as the icing on the cake.
