About the Project
A new building sandwiched between two existing buildings that are designated as historic landmarks. Now that’s something different. A unique project among our work for Stedin. A fantastic aesthetic challenge for our architects—especially since we had to win over the building review board.
Vicoma’s Role
With an attractive design for the 50/13 kV substation, we were able to reach a consensus with the municipality. Through various design sessions, in close collaboration with the client and the electrical engineering consultant, we simultaneously developed a well-thought-out concept in which the primary and secondary systems are functionally integrated. We then further developed the preliminary design into bid documents, and our construction drawings provided a solid starting point for the project’s implementation.
We handled the engineering throughout the entire project, and during construction, we were responsible for project management and construction supervision.
Result
The Building Aesthetics Committee has commended us for our architectural design. Stedin has commended us for the functional integration of both their Statement of Requirements and their specific requests. We were able to seamlessly integrate this new building—both aesthetically and functionally—into the existing context on Oranjelaan. Our 3D scan was a huge help in achieving this.
