About this project: recalculation gas cylinders
A gas bulb – intended for the storage of lpg – that was engineered years ago: does it still meet the strict requirements we set today? Vicoma provided the answer to this question from a prominent client. Spoiler alert: yes, those bulbs are still sufficient.
The requirements for producing gas cylinders are different from the past. So are the risks – terror threat first and foremost. Reason for our client to commission a recalculation. The cylinders, situated near Rotterdam, could pose a potential threat in the event of an explosion. After all, if one cylinder explodes, what happens to the other 10 in the immediate vicinity?
Everything is fine
The recalculation was done using a FEM calculation by Vicoma and showed the effect. The pressure wave after the explosion first pushes the nearby cylinders away before changing to a suction effect. Large forces do apply to the cylinder that actually moves. But that force is of such short duration that the cylinder withstands the temporary deformation without a problem. Conclusion is that the site is safe.
