It is very busy at the engineering department of Indorama Ventures Europe B.V. in Rotterdam, producer of PTA and PET. In the Europoort area they are working hard on the expansion of the PTA plant. The capacity will double from 350 to 600 kilotons per year. With its own engineers having hands on work on the project, Indorama had some engineers from Vicoma flown in for extra capacity.
They have been working here on site for about three years now,’ says a satisfied Armand van Daalen, engineering & facilities manager at Indorama. The new RTO unit (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) is capable of reducing the pollution concentration in the air to an absolute minimum. Engineering support is provided by our own employees. But this meant that other assignments were left unfinished. We knew Vicoma from previous projects. A flexible organisation that fits in with the flexible organisation that we are.
Engineers project leaders
For three years now four to five Vicoma engineers have been reinforcing our own engineering team, from specialists in civil engineering to electrical engineers. Armand: ‘But actually they are engineering project leaders. With us, they are also responsible for the entire execution of projects: delivering on time, the handover to and feedback with the factory. What we need here are people who feel like problem owners and do not withdraw their hands when things go wrong. And we have those, through Vicoma.’ Also engineering capacity in-house in short supply?
