Maryam Doaie joined Vicoma in July 2022 as senior electrical & instrumentation engineer. We recently spoke to her on topics such as her work, her experiences and the atmosphere and culture at Vicoma.

“I heard about Vicoma through one of my former colleagues, who already worked for the company. He knew I was on the lookout for a new challenge in my career and told me about an open position on LinkedIn,” Maryam says. “In my previous job, most of the projects I worked on were very similar to one another. Every project is unique at Vicoma, which means there are more opportunities for me to grow and learn by applying new technology and new designing methods. I work on different projects for different clients, each with their unique features. Every day I have to innovate and create and draw on the experience, knowledge and skills I have developed and gained over the past 20 years. That’s what makes this job so fascinating.” Teamwork is also very import. “With every project we work on, we do it with a multidisciplinary team. We have to troubleshoot together to solve problems and keep innovating.”

What can you remember from your first work day and your first months at Vicoma?

“I remember how pleasantly surprised I was by people’s openness and friendliness on my first day. I even received a bunch of flowers, was welcomed personally by the director and I was introduced to a few colleagues I would be working with. After day one, I wasn’t thrown straight in the deep end but was given time to get to know the company, its working methods, procedures and culture, and that allowed me to build my own network. Vicoma provides a safe workplace for its staff. That’s incredibly motivating. When you feel comfortable and confident, it contributes to productivity.”

Has your idea about Vicoma changed at all after nine months?

“Even after nine months, Vicoma is a company where I feel at home. But I also see opportunities how Vicoma can grow even further. It’s a big company with four offices. It would be nice to improve the communication between them even further by sharing more resources and training together. We can support each other even more as one team, create synergy and take the quality on all fronts to the next level. It is important to challenge yourself as an individual every day and to want to improve. But this also applies to the company as an umbrella organisation. Then 1+1 isn’t 2 anymore but a multiple factor of that number, and together you can move mountains.”
